Using Nomadic Care to organise Supported Independent Living (SIL)

2 min read

1. What is Supported Independent Living (SIL) in Nomadic Care? #

SIL is where participants receive help with daily tasks so they can live independently. In Nomadic Care, SIL tasks, goals, and provider responsibilities are all captured in one shared care plan.

2. How do I set up a SIL care plan in Nomadic Care? #

  1. Go to Care Plans → Create New.
  2. Select NDIS → SIL as the plan type.
  3. Add participant details, support workers, and daily living tasks.
  4. Save and share with the care team.

3. Can I add daily routines and tasks for participants? #

Yes. Under the SIL care plan:

  • Click Tasks → Add Task.
  • Choose from templates (e.g., personal care, meal prep, medication reminders) or create custom tasks.
  • Assign tasks to staff or participants.

4. How do support workers record progress? #

Support workers open the Task Checklist in the app and mark tasks as Completed, In Progress, or Missed. Notes can be added for extra context.

5. Can Nomadic Care track incidents like falls #

Yes. Nomadic Care includes a Fall Prevention & Monitoring feature.

  • Staff can log any falls or near-misses.
  • Optional wearable integration can flag risks (originally designed for aged care but also useful in SIL).
  • Trends are displayed on a Falls Dashboard for early intervention.

6. How do I involve multiple providers or family members? #

Nomadic Care allows you to:

  • Invite external providers or family to view or update care plans.
  • Control access levels (view-only or full access).
  • Share progress updates securely.

7. Can SIL goals be tracked over time? #

Yes. Each SIL plan includes a Goals section where progress (e.g., independent cooking, managing personal hygiene) can be measured with milestones and reviewed regularly.

8. Is Nomadic Care suitable for both group homes and individual SIL settings? #

Absolutely. Nomadic Care can manage SIL in both shared housing and 1:1 arrangements. The care plan can be tailored to the living situation and participant needs.

9. How do I generate reports for NDIS compliance? #

Go to Reports → NDIS SIL Report to download a summary of:

  • Tasks completed
  • Progress against goals
  • Incident logs (falls, behavioural, medical)
  • Staff notes

These can be exported to PDF for NDIS audits or provider meetings.

10. Can participants access their own SIL plans? #

Yes. Participants using the Nomadic Care Patient App can:

  • View daily tasks and reminders.
  • Tick off activities they complete independently.
  • Review progress with their support team.
