Short answer #

In Nomadic Care, a provider is a person or organisation delivering care, a patient or client is the person receiving care, a carer is someone who supports the patient, and a Care Buddy is an approved support person linked to the patient within Nomadic Care.

Why these roles matter #

Nomadic Care supports different people in the care journey. Each role has a different purpose and may have different access or permissions.

Understanding these roles helps providers, patients and carers know who can do what.

Role definitions #

1. Provider #

A provider is a healthcare professional, care worker, clinician or organisation delivering care.

Examples include:

  • Nurse.
  • GP.
  • Allied health professional.
  • Support coordinator.
  • Aged care provider.
  • NDIS provider.
  • Clinic administrator.

Providers usually use the provider portal to manage patients, care plans, tasks, documents and progress.

2. Patient or client #

A patient or client is the person receiving care or support.

They may use the Nomadic Care mobile app to:

  1. View tasks.
  2. Complete care actions.
  3. Receive reminders.
  4. Access documents.
  5. Join telehealth appointments.
  6. Share progress information.

The terms patient and client may be used differently depending on the type of organisation. Healthcare clinics may say patient, while NDIS or aged care services may prefer client or participant.

3. Carer #

A carer is someone who helps support the patient or client. This may be a family member, friend, support worker or other trusted person.

4. Care Buddy #

A Care Buddy is an approved support person who may be linked to a patient in Nomadic Care. The Care Buddy can help the patient stay engaged with their care, depending on the permissions set by the provider or organisation.

5. Care team #

The care team is the group of people involved in supporting the patient. This may include providers, nurses, allied health professionals, carers, family members and Care Buddies.
